His steps were heavy, and for the moment he wondered how he was even still on his feet, cut into, torn up as he was.

“Excellent job recovering Breakdown, Starscream.” he hear Megatron say, unable to even look up at his leader he was so tired and sore. “Breakdown, don’t wait around here, get yourself to the medbay so that you can get repaired.”

“Yeah, right I... should.” he said, taking a moment before turning toward the med bay. He didn’t want to admit it out loud but he was a little worried about how Knock Out would react to his damage. Fortunately, and unfortunately, it was not a long trip to the med bay, and from the moment he walked in Knock Out was all business, getting him in and on the work table. It wasn’t long before he was drifting off into stasis as Knock Out set about doing basic cleaning first.

As he woke up he was relieved to find that he no longer hurt like he had; there was something distinctly odd about how he was feeling though. He wasn’t given the chance to think about it too much as just then Knock Out came up, smiling down at him, but managing to keep the right side of his face from view.

“How do you feel?” The question was asked, effectively redirecting his thoughts into answering the question, rather than asking about why he was standing like that.

“Not too bad, no where near the pain I was in before, thank you.” He responded with a smile.

“Good, I’m glad. I got everything sealed back up and in working order.” Knock Out said, about to turn away before he heard Breakdown’s next statement.

“I do feel a little odd though, something seems... off.” He added, his hand coming up to check where he had his optic removed, thinking he would find a patch over the gap. He wasn’t prepared for Knock Out to reach out for his hand, stopping it’s progress a few feet from the optic.

“NO!” It was in trying to catch him that Knock Out finally turned toward Breakdown, a finely crafted patch covering where his right optic would have been.
Breakdown stared up Knock Out for a moment, his expression stunned.

And then he looked down at his own hand, the still semi-glossy area showing a reflection of mix matched eyes looking back at him, one his normal gold, the other a light aqua blue.

“Knock Out?” He said, his voice pouring out all the questions he wanted to ask but couldn’t find the words for.

“Breakdown, you... you rely on your sight, with what you do. I don’t need full sight as much, it made sense to make you whole.”

His other hand made it’s way up to Knock Out’s face, cupping against it, his thumb running over the edge of his helm near the patch, not touching it. He knew Knock Out wouldn’t have let anyone else do the dirty work, he had probably removed his own optic, only the littlest benefits of pain suppressors, as after a while they made it hard to see, think and work right. He shifted his hand behind his partner’s helm, drawing him down into an awkward half hug.

“Thank you.” He said, his voice thick with many emotions, some that he could not name, and all that he would talk about in detail with Knock Out later.

“Thank you for coming back big guy.”
